PARADISE ENVIRONMENT 0.2.0 - WINDOWS BASE PREVIEW
October 16, 2026

Extract this ZIP to a folder, then open ParadiseEnvironment.exe.
The program is unsigned. No installer or automatic updates are included.
Do not bypass operating-system security warnings. The app needs Windows and
a compatible .NET Framework 4 runtime; this package installs no dependencies.

START WRITING
1. Type a scene title and draft. Add and reorder scenes in the left binder.
2. File > Save project (Ctrl+S) saves a new .paradise.json file.
3. File > Open project (Ctrl+O) resumes it. Save again to keep later changes.
4. Project > Project title and notes keeps research for the whole project.
5. The type selector marks an item Scene, Research, Character, or Note.
Scene notes sit below the editor. Research/notes are omitted from manuscript
export; the project file preserves every item and its notes.
6. Project > Take scene snapshot (Ctrl+Shift+K) keeps the current scene title
and text before revision. View/restore snapshots with Ctrl+Shift+R.
Restoration also snapshots the outgoing text. Keep up to 30 per scene.
Snapshots become durable when you save the project. They are NOT autosave.
7. Find next searches the current scene and wraps to its beginning.
8. File > Export manuscript (Ctrl+Shift+E) writes scenes in binder order to
plain text. Ctrl+E exports the selected item. Ctrl+I imports a UTF-8 text
file as a new scene. Import does not replace existing scenes.

PORTABLE PROJECT FILES
The online writing desk can import a .paradise.json file as a NEW private
project and download one for this app. This is an explicit file transfer,
not cloud sync or automatic account linking. Online limits: 2 MB, 200 items,
120-character titles, 200,000 characters per item, 30 snapshots per item.
Online project notes and item notes have a 30,000-character limit.
Desktop limits: 20 MB project file, 1,000 items, 200-character titles,
5,000,000 characters per item, 1,000,000 characters per notes field.
Some desktop projects will exceed online limits and cannot be imported there.
Older October 15 projects can be opened; optional metadata is initialized.

SAVING AND RECOVERY
Save is explicit. Closing, creating or opening another project asks whether
to save, discard or cancel if there are unsaved changes. Cancel leaves the
current project available. Save As and exports refuse existing file paths.
Saving the current file keeps its previous bytes beside it in a uniquely
named .backup-* file. To recover a backup, COPY it to a new filename ending
in .paradise.json, then open that copy. Keep independent backups.
External-change detection is optimistic; avoid editing one file in multiple
app instances. File size includes snapshot history; export backups if needed.

VERIFICATION
24 storage checks and a WinForms workflow smoke test passed on Windows.
Checks cover old files, Unicode, malformed data, conflicts, backup preservation,
notes, snapshots/restoration, manuscript exclusions, search/wrap, scene switching,
and save/reopen. An actual rendered Windows form was inspected. A synthetic
online project was loaded and saved by this executable and imported back online.
Desktop and 390px browser fixture layout/keyboard checks passed for the website.
Interactive file dialogs, keyboard-only Windows navigation, high-DPI displays,
physical devices, crash recovery, and multi-process save races remain unrun.

Not implemented: rich text, Scrivener import, nested folders, spelling/grammar,
AI provider calls, automatic saving, collaboration, cloud sync, or full mature
writing-suite parity. No writing is scanned or uploaded by this program.

Source and existing-compiler build.ps1 are in source/. Build requires the
existing Windows .NET Framework compiler; no package download is needed.
Automated switches: --self-test, --smoke-test,
--interop-test input.paradise.json new-output.paradise.json.
