Subtitle Timing Workbench
Validate SRT and WebVTT subtitles, inspect overlaps and reading speed, and preview timing offsets before saving a new file.
The problem it solves
Subtitle Timing Workbench validates SRT and WebVTT subtitles, checks overlaps and reading speed, and previews timing offsets before saving a new file.
Who Subtitle Timing Workbench is for
- People who need a small, purpose-built utility instead of a broad platform.
- Users working with subtitles, SRT, WebVTT who want the documented v0.1.0 behavior.
- People who prefer an open-source release with visible limitations, source, and license terms.
Intended result
Validate SRT and WebVTT subtitles, inspect overlaps and reading speed, and preview timing offsets before saving a new file.
This summary is reconciled from the current catalog and repository documentation.
Features in v0.1.0
Capabilities below come from the current project README and release documentation.

MIT licensed. Runs locally without an account or external service. See GitHub Releases for downloads.
Verified examples
Screenshots are shown only when the current README references a local source image. Otherwise, repository example files are linked directly.

Changelog
Release notes from the canonical v0.1.0 source tag.
- Added UTF-8 SRT and WebVTT timing validation, all overlapping cue pairs (including nested cues), source-order evidence, non-positive durations, configurable reading-speed evidence and reviewed global millisecond offsets. Timings are preserved as integer milliseconds; original BOM, line endings, identifiers, settings, metadata blocks and visible cue text are preserved during export. Supported WebVTT inline timestamp tags shift by the same offset as cue boundaries and appear in before/after review evidence.
- Shift WebVTT inline timestamp tags with cue boundaries and show their before/after values in review evidence; accept later cue identifiers beginning WEBVTT.
- Added synthetic examples, regression tests, usage documentation and MIT licensing.
- Added version-checked release packaging with SHA-256 checksums.

These boundaries are part of the product and prevent the page from implying unverified capability.
This is a timing workbench, not a full WebVTT specification validator or subtitle editor. WebVTT NOTE/STYLE/REGION blocks are preserved without semantic validation. No media playback, translation, per-cue editing, automatic correction, or alignment to audio. Character speed excludes whitespace and markup and counts Unicode code points, not visual graphemes; it is review evidence, not a universal readability rule. Inputs are limited to 5 MB, 20,000 cues and 100,000 overlap pairs; timestamps after shifts must remain within 00..99 hours.
Privacy and licensing
Review the actual data boundary before using a tool with sensitive inputs.
Privacy and safety
No network, telemetry, account, persistent cache or media access. Only explicitly selected subtitle and plan files are read. Reports contain timing evidence; review plans bind source bytes and output bytes using SHA-256. All output paths use exclusive creation, so original and existing files cannot be overwritten.
License and release
Subtitle Timing Workbench is published under MIT. The current cataloged release is v0.1.0, published 2026-10-15.
