Request a Lab

Have an idea you want to see forged?

The Forge is where useful, strange, playful, or ambitious ideas can be built in public as labs. If there is something you wish existed but do not have the time or patience to build, send the idea over.

What to Send

A good request explains the outcome

You do not need a technical spec. The useful part is knowing what problem the lab should solve or what experience it should create.

01

The Idea

Describe what you want people to be able to do, browse, generate, track, play, or experience.

02

The Audience

Say who would use it and why they would care enough to come back.

03

The First Version

Share the smallest useful version you would want to test as a public Forge lab.

Examples

The best requests are specific about the experience

Here are examples of the kind of thinking that leads to useful labs.

Good requests

“A tool to organize book quotes by theme”

Clear outcome: people can save quotes, tag them, and browse by theme. Audience is readers who collect passages. First version could be a simple tagging interface.

“A social feed for indie game screenshots”

Clear outcome: people can share and browse screenshots from small games. Audience is indie game fans. First version could be a simple gallery with upvotes.

Less useful

“Something with AI”

Too vague. What should the AI do? For whom? What is the first thing someone would try?

“A better Twitter”

Too broad. What specifically would be better? For what kind of user? What is the smallest test?
