Will This Fit?
Compare rectangular item orientations with saved shelf, drawer or appliance-space measurements and visible clearances.
The problem it solves
Will This Fit? Save a shelf, drawer or appliance space and compare an item with all six orientations. This checks rectangular dimensions only, not doors, stairs or a moving path.
Who Will This Fit? is for
- People who need a small, purpose-built utility instead of a broad platform.
- Users working with measurements, clearance, local-first who want the documented v1.0.1 behavior.
- People who prefer an open-source release with visible limitations, source, and license terms.
Intended result
Compare rectangular item orientations with saved shelf, drawer or appliance-space measurements and visible clearances.
This summary is reconciled from the current catalog and repository documentation.
Features in v1.0.1
Capabilities below come from the current project README and release documentation.
Save a shelf, drawer or appliance space and compare an item with all six orientations. This checks rectangular dimensions only, not doors, stairs or a moving path.
This is a small, local-first browser tool for household measurements.
Verified examples
Screenshots are shown only when the current README references a local source image. Otherwise, repository example files are linked directly.

Changelog
Release notes from the canonical v1.0.1 source tag.
- Corrected contributor setup instructions to install the pinned development tools with
npm ci. The browser app still runs without runtime dependencies. - Updated release packaging and browser acceptance to use the package version and check the matching offline ZIP.
- Added saved rectangular space and item dimensions, six orientations, remaining clearance diagrams, printable comparison and portable backups.
- Added validated backup replacement, local storage recovery and stale-tab safeguards.
- Added offline packaging and printed numeric guides with explicit assumptions.
Quick start
The shortest documented path into the current release.
Before running these source commands, download the v1.0.1 source archive, extract it, and open a terminal in the extracted project folder containing README.md. Follow the tagged README for required runtimes and any platform-specific setup.
- Download the release ZIP and extract it. Open
index.htmlin a current browser. The packaged file includes its styles and scripts and works offline. - Choose cm, mm or inches, then enter your measurements. Changing units does not convert numbers.
- Choose Calculate plan. Read the diagram, numeric results and assumptions before using the plan.
- Choose Save plan to keep a named copy in this browser, or Export current plan to download it. Print measured guide prints the visible plan without the editor.
If your browser blocks file-origin storage, run python -m http.server 8000 in the extracted folder and open http://localhost:8000. This local server needs no Internet access. Opening source index.html requires a local server because source modules are separate files; the release ZIP is directly openable.
Current limitations
These boundaries are part of the product and prevent the page from implying unverified capability.
The current v1.0.1 release is bounded by the behavior documented in its README and changelog. It does not claim unsupported platforms, automatic interpretation, or results beyond the evidence it produces.
Privacy and licensing
Review the actual data boundary before using a tool with sensitive inputs.
Privacy and safety
No accounts, analytics, uploads or runtime network requests. The source link opens GitHub only when you choose it. Browser storage is local to this browser and origin. Private mode, browser cleanup and storage eviction can remove it; it is not a permanent backup. Export JSON regularly and keep copies outside the browser. Printing or exporting may reveal the names and measurements you entered.
Import accepts only this tool’s version 1 schema, at most 100 plans and 1 MB JSON. A preview shows the replacement count and requires confirmation before saving. Imports replace the saved list, so export the current list first. Cancel or Escape leaves it unchanged. Invalid imports never write. Unreadable storage remains unchanged and blocks normal saving/export until a valid backup is reviewed for explicit replacement; the original bytes can be downloaded. A changed value in another tab blocks stale saves. A rejected browser write leaves the current in-memory list unchanged.
